GNG teams up with www.removesharknets.com
This is a campaign run by a very passionate and dedicated Gold Coast-based volunteer in order to overcome the insanity of shark nets in Australia
Shark netting, or the "Bather Protection Program" as governments call it, is a massive problem not only for sharks, but for no end of marine life. Around half of the animals caught in the net are non-target, or bycatch species. These, as well as many of the targetted shark species, are endangered here and/or globally. This means they are already at risk of extinction, and we all have a legal obligation to protect them from harm. GNG plans to combine our efforts with those of www.removesharknets.com and a number of other organisations to raise awareness about the shark nets and their real role, and hopefully overcome the "need" for these gill nets as a method of ensuring the safety of beach-goers.
